1. What is Soulvaria VR?
Soulvaria VR is Cape Breton's first premium virtual reality (VR) centre where guests can experience the newest in frontier VR technology, content and gaming. Our mission is to provide to you the best out-of-home VR service around, whilst exceeding your most wildest expectations. We also hope to contribute in the adoption of VR technology by giving as many people the opportunity to experience it first-hand, without the prohibitive expense and space requirements that is compulsory for premium at-home VR entertainment. We believe that VR is the future of entertainment, education and social interaction, and through the help of Soulvaria VR we hope to make VR affordable and within reach to as many people as possible.
1. What is Virtual Reality (VR)?
Virtual Reality (VR) means creating immersive, computer-generated environments (or games/experiences) that are so convincing users will react the same way they would in real life. In the context of technological development, virtual reality can create artificial environments that are presented to the user in such a way that it "feels real", which is aided by the use of head mounted displays (such as the HTC Vive), headphones, and other assistive devices such as motion controllers that monitor the user’s actions and respond accordingly.
2. What are the benefits of Virtual Reality?
Virtual reality (VR) is the future of social interaction, gaming, film, education and entertainment in general. It has the ability to put users virtual “inside” the experience and turn them into the action hero or explorer they have always wanted to be. It allows the user to experience things from a truly first person perspective; blurring the lines between their reality and the three-dimensional (3D) reality being interacted with. VR can also offer users a robust health conscious experience of swaying their arms, jumping and swinging from side to side while interacting in their virtual environment, which allows a more active experience than traditional games. All these entertaining possibilities are why VR is being explored by just about every major entertainment brand on the planet and is growing in popularity!
3. Do I have to be a gamer?
Virtual Reality (VR) can be as simple or as complex as the content provide, this being said one does not need to be a “gamer” to enjoy virtual reality content or games. There are games and simple experiences that just about anyone can try! VR goes beyond gaming, allowing users to experience everything from film and entertainment, to educational interactive experiences and documentaries. Users can also take advantage of the many applications that VR provides, such as world and space adventures, creative arts and design, creating music and just about anything else one can dream.
4. Why should I go to Soulvaria VR? Can’t I just purchase my own VR equipment for at home?
Our goal is to hope that you would adopt virtual reality technology in your own homes. However, many people will never spend the huge amount of cash it takes to set up an in-home VR system. Others simply do not have the space to explore virtual worlds in their homes safety even if they wanted to. Soulvaria VR provide an opportunity for everyone to experience VR on a budget, and offers the ability to combine multiple VR systems for local multiplayer use, a capability that few homes are likely to acquire any time soon. Furthermore, as the technology continues to evolve, it seems likely that Soulvaria VR will be able to stay ahead of the curve, offering the next phase of equipment before it moves down to retail.
Soulvaria VR also gives a unique social space for VR enthusiasts and VR gamers to meet up before, after or in between session play, while staying active with events, tournaments and seasonal attractions. At Soulvaria VR there is always something new to try!
Facility & Hardware:
1. What is the HTC Vive?
The HTC Vive is a virtual reality headset developed by HTC and Valve Corporation. The headset uses "room scale" tracking technology, allowing the user to move in 3D space and use motion-tracked handheld controllers.
2. What type of hardware is offered at Soulvaria VR?
All of the VR setups offered through Soulvaria VR feature state-of-the-art equipment that allows guests an incredibly smooth and interactive experience. Soulvaria VR currently offers up to six (6) rooms (VR-Ready Play Spaces), each ready to offer a VR experience for one (1) individual per room at a time. The HTC Vive, which is a VR helmet or head mounted display (HMD) acts as the medium to the virtual world. These HMDs will be powered by Alienware VR-ready gaming computers that are truly optimized to ensure total immersion, free from lag and glitches; rendering a smooth and enjoyable virtual reality experience.

3. Can I bring my own keyboard, mouse or peripherals?
If bringing your own keyboard, mouse, or headphone is preferred, then we can assist you with the setup. Just keep in mind that setting up the peripherals will use up a bit of the players session time.
4. What type of internet does Soulvaria VR use?
Soulvaria VR wants to ensure users experience online play with little to no lag, therefore, Soulvaria VR offers a high speed connection of up to 300mbps (courtesy of Eastlink).
5. What about the Atmosphere and Lighting?
As guests are walking into Soulvaria VR they will first notice that there is no outside light from windows. Instead Guests will experience an array of blue lighting from LED strip lights, coupled with black lights from the above fixtures that offer a classic luminous hue. The colour choice and lack of outside light will create a special atmosphere or mood that is both exciting and comfortable, as well as dark enough so as to not ruin any VR experience from excessively bright light, but allowing enough light for safe, comfortable movement, and special glowing effects.
1. How do I book a time?
Bookings can be completed in advance through our simple online booking system tab, using the following steps:
(1) Choose a session time and the amount attending.
(2) Pick your preferred time slot.
(3) Ensure each person attending has signed the Terms and Conditions, and Waiver both of which can be found on our legal page (Note: patrons under 18 years-old must have their document signed by a parent/guardian on premises before their VR session).
(4) Complete the payment to secure your session.
If there is any trouble with booking online or signing our Terms and Conditions and/or Waiver guests can call our reception and have their booking done over the phone or they can come in to book on site and/or fill out the legal documentation.

2. Can I book more than one session in a row?
3. How many guests can participate at Soulvaria VR?
Up to six (6) guests can participate in VR at one time, since we have six (6) VR-Ready Play Spaces. However, our location can support up to twelve (12) guests, so there is lots of room for those who wish to watch their friends, or are willing to take turns in split time sessions.

4. Can I play multiplayer with the person the play space next to me?
You bet! There are specific software applications that will allow you to join your friends. You will also be able to talk with them through the headset’s microphone, and you will even be able to see your friends actions performed by their avatars (virtual character)! Everyone in a VR session at Soulvaria VR can join you, so long as the VR experiences being played can support up to six (6) players!
5. Is there an age limit?
No, however, players under the age of 18 must have their parent/guardian present at the start of the booking to sign the Terms and Conditions in-person, on behalf of their child.
6. Is there Restrictions to Use Soulvaria's VR Equipment?
The majority of VR headset manufacturers are setting age recommendations. The Oculus Rift and Samsung’s Gear VR headset have a thirteen plus (13+) age rating. Sony’s PlayStation VR is not to be used by children under the age of twelve (12). However, though HTC Vive doesn’t specify an age limit, it does warn against allowing ‘young children’ to use the Vive. Therefore, we believe for the best experience, the VR equipment should not be used by ‘children’ shorter than 48 inches (4ft), as this height would be tall enough and allow children to be strong enough to hold the weight of the VR and audio headsets. Adults should monitor children who are using or have used the VR equipment and prolonged use should be avoided, as this could negatively impact hand-eye coordination, balance, and multi-tasking ability. Adults should monitor children closely during and after use of the VR equipment for any decrease in these abilities. Although there are no height restrictions on adults we do ‘recommend’ that the adult user’s height for using the VR equipment be at at least 48 inches (4ft) as well. Furthermore, if over 7ft tall the user's experience may be limited.
Why the Height Recommendations imposed specifically for children? VR headsets are physically designed for adults, they’re big and often heavy and when you add the weight of audio headsets it’s a lot for a child’s neck to support. The distance between your eyes (pupils) is also important for a good VR experience. Adult VR systems may just not be physically suitable for young children.
7. What payment options does Soulvaria VR Offer?
Soulvaria VR can accept various credit card’s (i.e. Mastercard, Visa), as well as debit card and cash transactions.
8. How early should I show up for my schedule?
Our recommendation (especially for your first visit) is that that you arrive at least twenty (20) minutes in advance of your booking, to review the setup process.
9. Something came up, what if I need to cancel my booking?
Cancellations can be completed by emailing us or by calling us. Visit our Contact tab for details. If cancelled: At least forty-eight (48) hours in advance, guest(s) will receive a full refund of their deposit and/or service paid for. Between twenty-four (24) and forty-eight (48) hours in advance, guest(s) will receive fifty percent (50%) of their deposit and/or service paid for. In less than twenty-four (24) hours, we are unable to offer a refund for their deposit and/or service paid for (special circumstances may be applicable).
SAFETY AND REQUIREMENTS:
1. Is Virtual Reality Safe?
Yes, Virtual Reality is safe, however, please consult your doctor if you have any serious medical conditions, sensitivity to flashing lights, or limited ability to safely perform any physical activities.
Please stop use of VR if you are feeling fatigued, sick, under the influence of drugs/alcohol.
2. What type of clothing can be worn?
We recommend that casual wear be worn. Some of our games require a fair amount of movement than others and will likely make you sweat. Note: Guests must take off their shoes and wet jacket before entering any of the play spaces. Shoes must be placed outside the play area (the matted floor space). We recommend you to place your outside clothing in the available cabinet. Soulvaria VR also reserves the right to ask guests to come back with dry clothing if various other articles of clothing are too damp and unsafe for the VR/computer equipment and its usage.
3. Will my personal belongings be safe while I’m in a VR session?
Soulvaria VR is not responsible for anyone's personal belongings or possessions. If the guest wishes to leave specific belonging or possession with a staff member (i.e. a purse or cell phone) they can do so at their own discretion without guarantee of its safety.
4. I wear prescription glasses, is there a need to take them off?
The HTC Vive Head Mounted display is adjustable for different eye and glasses distances. Most glasses consisting of both large and small frames to fit with ease.
5. Should I bring anything with me?
Bring a valid form of ID. It is a requirement for proof of identity when you sign the waiver.
6. How do I not bang into walls while in VR?
The HTC Vive has a “chaperone system”, which is a safety feature that places gridlines in the VR worlds. These gridlines will appear when you are getting close to the edge (walls) of the playspace.
Contest and prizes:
1. How long do I have to redeem a prize?
All prizes and winnings must be collected within thirty (30) days from then winning date and/or announcement, which ever is specified first.
